ANSWER - Turgunoy Egamberideva, head of the Gender Equality Research Center at Fergana State University:
Following the common international practice in this field, Fergana State University also designed maternity policies for female students who are either pregnant or have newly born baby. First of all, maternity leave/child care leave is recognized as a right for female students, and faculty members are required to accommodate mother-students to leave up to 50% in one academic year (only). Secondly, the university offers flexibility in re-sheduling faculty exams for female students provided that a female student can prove the urgency for maternity leave/child care. Thirdly, the university operates an innovative kindergarten for children of female students and faculty staff in accordance with free care policy of the university. Last but not least, our center (“Gender equality research center”) allocates special rooms for for pregnant and breastfeeding students ensuring the healthly protection of mother and child.
